Band Session Note (BSN) is a sheet music app built by a working saxophonist for rehearsal rooms and stages. Place notes on a staff or write freely with a pen, and fix charts that arrive as photos or PDFs right on the tablet. Its distinctive tools are Rhythm Tap, which turns taps on the screen into notes and rests in time with the metronome; the Drum Pack, which writes standard drum notation from taps on an on-screen kit; a transposed view for 11 transposing instruments that never alters the original; and a performance mode with half-page turns, foot-pedal support and a countdown for rest bars. Version 1.13 added playback of written charts with chord comping and MIDI file import. It runs on iPad, iPhone and Android tablets as a one-time purchase.
"Fixing charts from the group chat on stage, and reading C charts while switching between alto and tenor - those experiences became the features." SJ Kim is a saxophonist who plays band sessions and live shows. The tools started as things he built for his own use, became an app released in June 2026, and have been updated monthly since with player feedback. The app works entirely on the device with no account or server, and collects no personal data.
